Welcoming 2024

Updated: Jan 14

How are you starting this New Year?

Everyone can agree that there is something special about these two days, 12/31 and O1/01. And aside from the different ways we all choose to celebrate it, I am sure there are those quiet, reflective moments that are significant. I am a constant thinker, so these days are filled with those moments!

I think about significant events in 2023 that added to what I call the fabric of my life. The past year was a beautiful roller coaster ride of emotions.

I lost a dear friend and colleague, Craig Burbidge. Regardless of the reason, Craig was always there for me, no matter what or when. He never judged me and always had my back. We met in the early 80s and, over the decades, became brothers. We talked daily about life, our kids, ups and downs, motivating each other to rise above the noise and be our best ourselves. I will miss him.

  2. Mixing a film at my home studio

  3. Recording a tracking session for guitarist Chris Korblein with Ray Parker Jr. and Alex Al at the Firehouse, Pasadena, CA

Officiating at the wedding of another dear

friend, Denny Fongheiser, and his beautiful wife, Kimberly Adamis-Fongheiser, was an honor for me. I met Denny in the early 80s. We had just moved to Los Angeles and crossed paths at a rehearsal studio and I was impressed with his groove. A deep friendship developed and over the years, I’ve witnessed his rise as a world-class session recording musician and producer.

I remember when he met Kimberly, and they started dating. They loved being around each other and supported whatever artistic ambition they imagined. It is a story of how meaningful relationships develop into solid bonds, working through challenging times, celebrating each other’s triumphs, and just being there giving support at crucial times. I couldn’t be happier for them both.

My most meaningful experience was learning that listening is key to be a better father to my sons, Sean and Tal. Listening, not tainted by my own beliefs, expectations, or emotions, is crucial in hearing and understanding what is being said.

Stories contribute and give insight to the fabric of my life. The sharing of our stories can also be helpful to others in shaping their perspectives.

I would love to hear your thoughts on impressions of 2023 and what you are taking into 2024. Discover and be your best self, do the good work, and fight the good fight!
